Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s adviser on private industry and investment, Salman F Rahman, and former law minister Anisul Haque have been kept in the custody of the Dhaka Metropolitan Intelligence Police (DB) after their arrest on Tuesday night.
A source of DB knows about this matter. They were arrested in a case filed at Newmarket police station in the capital.
A senior DB official said that Salman F Rahman and Law Minister Anisul Haque were taken to the DB office on Minto Road in the capital. They will be produced in court today. A remand application will be made seeking their arrest in the case filed at Newmarket police station.
However, he did not confirm when exactly they would be taken to court.
Meanwhile, DMP Commissioner Md. Mainul Hasan said Salman F. Rahman and former Law Minister Anisul Haque were arrested from the capital’s Sadarghat area while fleeing by water on the basis of secret information.
In the face of the anti-discrimination student movement, Sheikh Hasina resigned from Prime Minister post and left the country on August 5. After that, many ministers and MPs of the government gave cover. There are also reports that some of them have left the country.
In the meantime, on August 8, the Nobel-winning economist Dr. A 17-member interim government has been formed with Muhammad Yunus as the chief adviser.
After the formation of the Awami League government in the 11th National Assembly elections, former member of parliament and industrialist Salman Fazlur Rahman, aka Salman F Rahman, was appointed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s adviser on private industry and investment. He was retained in the same position even after the twelfth parliamentary elections.
On the other hand, in 2014, Anisul Haque was elected as a Member of Parliament of the Awami League from Brahmanbaria-4 (Kasba) constituency in the 10th parliamentary election. The government made him the law minister during that period. Since then, he has held the post.
